UnitSheet expressions combine numbers, units, arithmetic, comparisons, functions, and conversion. Workbook formulas use the same rules with a leading =.

Writing quantities

  • Write a number and a unit: 5m, 30s, 10kg, 10m/s, 10/s, 5/m.
  • Squared and cubed units can use Unicode or plain ASCII digits:
    • 10m² or 10m210m²
    • 10 m/s² or 10 m/s210m/s²
  • After a quantity, ^ means raise to a power, not “type a superscript in the unit.” So:
    • 5 m² and 5 m2 are 5 square meters → 5m²
    • 5 m^2 is 5 meters squared → 25m²
    • 10 m/s² and 10 m/s2 are acceleration (10m/s²)
    • 10 m/s^2 is (10 m/s)^2100J/kg (same dimension as m²/s²)
    Prefer m2 / m/s2 (or real superscripts) when you want the unit itself to be squared.
  • Inverse units use a leading slash (10/s, 5/m) rather than a negative exponent, so 5m-1m is subtraction.

Operators

  • Arithmetic: +, -, *, /. Same-dimension add/subtract convert automatically; multiply and divide form new dimensions (e.g. 25mi / 35min).
  • Comparisons: =, <>, <, >, <=, >=.
  • Convert with or ->. On the right-hand side, caret form is fine for the target unit: 8km → mi, 25mi / 35min → mph, 10m*10m → ft^2.
  • Precedence (tightest first): ^, then * / /, then + / -, then , then comparisons.
  • Functions use parentheses: SUM(1, 2, 3), AVERAGE(10m, 5ft), SIN(90°). Names are case-insensitive. Angles in trig functions convert to radians (SIN(90°) is 1; a bare number is already radians).
